Mt. Pleasant's Whole Mind clinic provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatments for a variety of mental health issues and disorders including:
Dr. Jonathan Broadwell is a board-certified general and geriatric psychiatrist at Whole Mind, where he provides compassionate, evidence-based care to adults and older adults experiencing mood, anxiety, trauma-related, psychotic, and neuropsychiatric disorders. He takes a holistic and individualized approach, helping patients and their families navigate mental health challenges with clarity, dignity, and hope.
Dr. Broadwell grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from San José State University. He completed his medical degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine, followed by a general psychiatry residency at Central Michigan University and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical School.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Broadwell serves as an Assistant Professor at Central Michigan University College of Medicine, where he trains medical students and residents on an inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit. He also works part-time with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services State Hospital system and serves as a Behavioral Health Officer in the Michigan Army National Guard.
Dr. Broadwell’s clinical expertise includes the treatment of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma, and cognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders related to dementia. He provides a range of therapeutic interventions including medication management, psychotherapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Spravato (esketamine) therapy.
He has received multiple honors for his teaching and service, including the 2025 CMU Psychiatry Department Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award, the 2022 American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry Honors Scholar distinction, and the 2021 CMU Louis E. Zeile Resident Teaching Scholarship.
Outside of work, Dr. Broadwell enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, exploring new restaurants, attending concerts, and traveling.
Tyler Simmons is a dedicated Physician Assistant at Whole Mind, where he provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for adolescents and adults. He offers medication management, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Spravato® (esketamine) treatments, specializing in ADHD, depression—including treatment-resistant cases—anxiety, and OCD.
Tyler earned both his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and his master’s degree as a Physician Assistant from Central Michigan University. Before entering psychiatry, he served in the U.S. Army as a Blackhawk mechanic and crew chief, experiences that shaped his resilience and deep empathy for others.
Tyler’s passion for mental health stems from his own personal journey as a survivor of childhood abuse. This perspective has given him a unique ability to connect with patients through authenticity and compassion. He believes that trust is built when patients feel truly heard—and that his role is not to tell patients what to do, but to help them make informed, empowered decisions about their care.
Outside of his work at Whole Mind, Tyler enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, traveling, exercising, and watching anime. His philosophy of care reflects both his professional expertise and his personal values: humility, openness, and the belief that healing begins with understanding.
